WILLANN STONE, PHD
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
About Willann Stone, PhD
I am a New York State licensed clinical psychologist with more than 30 years of experience working with adults in psychotherapy. My approach is psychodynamic and relational, grounded in the belief that meaningful therapy involves understanding not only what is troubling you now, but how your experiences, relationships, and ways of adapting over time have shaped the person you have become.
I have particular expertise in trauma, PTSD, and complex or longstanding trauma, as well as depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, chronic illness, and major life transitions. When helpful, I integrate evidence-based trauma treatments, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and EMDR, within a broader, individualized psychotherapy.
For 30 years, I served as Director of Psychological Services in Rehabilitation Medicine at Jacobi Medical Center and North Central Bronx Hospital, where I provided clinical care and supervised psychologists and psychology trainees. My work in rehabilitation medicine gave me extensive experience helping people cope with medical trauma and serious or chronic illness, chronic pain, disability, loss of functioning, and the psychological impact of profound changes in health and independence. In 2026, I left my hospital position to focus fully on my private practice.
How I Think About Therapy
I don't believe there is one treatment that is right for everyone. Some people benefit from a focused trauma treatment such as CPT or EMDR; others need a more exploratory psychotherapy in which trauma is understood in the context of relationships, identity, attachment, loss, and the broader course of their lives. Often, the most useful work draws thoughtfully from both. Together, we can determine what approach makes the most sense for you.
